The Sunflower

As I sit here today working on my website and portfolio I reflected on this photograph from my visit to a Hmong Village in Laos. These people have witnessed so much in their land that the shells of bombs that they have used to make fences and supports for their structures seem commonplace. I was struck by how beautifully pure they have carried on with life; from going to the newly established well in the village to get water each morning, to cutting one another’s hair on a chair placed in the grass in front of the house. Life marches on for these people at a different and slower pace. I am reminded of this simplicity when I look at this image of the young children I encountered that morning playing with a sunflower.
